All About Aubergines and Olives I have owned a hair salon for many years and enjoy working with my clients to bring out their natural beauty. Perhaps equally enjoyable has been sharing with clients my passion for cooking and eating with friends and family. Through the years, I have seen that we all yearn for the intimacy and warmth that are shared over a special meal. In fact, most of my clients leave looking fabulous, hungry, and ready to explore their kitchen. Growing up in a large family, my mum made everything from scratch. I vividly remember her soup simmering for hours, the smell wafting through our house and wrapping around us like a soft hug. I can still see her pies cooling on the counter and remember how they tasted, all warm and sweet from the oven. I have treasured these childhood memories for many years; and I know that we can create cherished memories with the same vivid tastes and smells for our own families, no matter how big or small. Sitting down at the table to share a wonderful meal is an art; it is a gift that gives us a sense of place and peace. It can also measurably improve the quality of our life. Recently Time Magazine featured a study that showed children who dine with their families are healthier, happier and better students (Time Magazine, June 12, 2006). It’s no wonder that a dying tradition has found new life! With Aubergines and Olives, it is my privilege and joy to share the secrets of simple, healthy and delicious cooking with my friends and clients. It’s my way of changing the world, one nourishing meal at a time. |
